The Enginetech SS332 is a precision-machined stainless steel rear crankshaft repair sleeve that restores a worn rear main seal journal on the crankshaft. Fits 1965-1996 Ford 3.9L/4.9L/5.8L applications.

Important Notes

  • Function: when the crankshaft rear main seal journal has been worn, grooved, or scored from years of seal contact, this sleeve presses over the damaged area to provide a fresh stainless steel surface for the existing seal to ride on - eliminating a leak-prone journal without replacing the crankshaft.
  • Precision-engineered from stainless steel for hardness, dimensional stability, and a lower coefficient of friction than the original machined crank surface in many applications.
  • Production date restriction: fits vehicles built through 11/30/82 only. Verify the production date on the door jamb or VIN plate before ordering - later production cranks used a different journal profile.
  • Use with the existing rear main seal - replacing the seal is not required unless the seal itself is damaged. The repair sleeve provides a fresh sealing surface that the seal lip runs against.
  • Installation: clean the crank journal, apply the included sealant (or Loctite 620) to the sleeve inside diameter, and press the sleeve on using a proper installation driver. Do not hammer the sleeve directly; use a flat driver or a purpose-made installation tool for a straight, square press.
  • Always verify the crankshaft journal diameter, seal type, and application year against the OE crank being serviced before ordering - journal dimensions vary between engine families and between production years within the same engine family.

Enginetech Rear Crankshaft Repair Sleeves are precision-engineered stainless steel wear sleeves pressed over the rear main seal journal of the crankshaft to restore a smooth sealing surface on engines where the OE journal has been grooved, worn, or scored from years of seal contact. Instead of replacing the crankshaft, the repair sleeve slips over the worn area and provides a fresh, hardened bearing surface for the existing rear main seal to ride on - an economical rebuild solution with a lower coefficient of friction than the original crank surface in many cases. Always verify the crankshaft journal diameter and seal size against the sleeve specification before pressing it on, and follow Enginetech's installation procedure for a straight, square press to avoid distorting the sleeve or damaging the crank.
